Xiaomi Confirms Bad News: These Devices Won’t Get HyperOS 3.1 or Android 16

The arrival of HyperOS 3.1 and Android 16 marks an important transition for Xiaomi, but not everyone will be moving forward. Xiaomi has confirmed that several popular smartphones and tablets will be excluded from the next major update cycle, a decision that impacts many users who still consider their devices perfectly usable.

While this outcome was partly expected, it highlights the growing gap between new software capabilities and older hardware limitations.

Why Some Xiaomi Devices Are Being Left Behind

The shift to HyperOS 3.1, based on Android 16, introduces deeper architectural changes that rely on newer hardware components. In particular, Xiaomi is focusing on advanced AI processing, newer system APIs, and app optimization techniques that require updated chipsets and drivers.

Modern platforms, such as those using the Snapdragon 8 Elite, include dedicated hardware support for features like real-time system intelligence, advanced background processing, and faster app pre-compilation. Older processors lack the necessary support, making a full upgrade impractical.

As a result, Xiaomi devices now fall into two clear categories:

  • Devices that will stop at HyperOS 3 (Android 15)
  • Devices that will remain on HyperOS 2, without reaching Android 15

Devices That Will Stop at Android 15 (No HyperOS 3.1)

The following Xiaomi, POCO, and Redmi models will receive HyperOS 3 based on Android 15 as their final major update, but will not move on to HyperOS 3.1 or Android 16:

  • Xiaomi 12
  • Xiaomi 12 Pro
  • Xiaomi 12S / 12S Pro / 12S Ultra
  • Xiaomi 12T Pro
  • Xiaomi MIX Fold 2
  • Xiaomi Pad 6 Max 14
  • Xiaomi Civi 2 / Civi 3
  • Xiaomi 13 Lite
  • POCO F5 5G
  • POCO F5 Pro
  • POCO M6 Pro
  • POCO X6 Neo
  • POCO C65
  • Redmi K60 / K60 Pro
  • Redmi K50 Ultra
  • Redmi Note 12 Turbo
  • Redmi Note 12T Pro
  • Redmi Note 13 5G
  • Redmi Note 13R Pro

These devices will continue to function normally but won’t gain the new features introduced with HyperOS 3.1.

Devices Stuck on HyperOS 2 (No Android 15)

An even stricter cutoff affects another group of devices that will not receive HyperOS 3 at all, remaining on HyperOS 2 as their final version:

  • Redmi Note 13 4G / Redmi Note 13 4G NFC
  • Xiaomi 12T
  • Redmi Note 12 4G / Redmi Note 12 NFC 4G
  • Redmi Note 12S
  • Redmi Note 12R
  • Redmi 12 / Redmi 12 5G
  • Redmi 13C / Redmi 13C 5G / Redmi 13R

Some of these models are relatively recent, but they fail to meet the new minimum hardware requirements set by HyperOS 3.1.

What Users Will Still Receive

Even though these devices are excluded from major OS upgrades, Xiaomi has confirmed that users will continue to receive:

  • Security updates
  • Google Play System updates

However, they will miss out on new HyperOS features such as advanced multitasking interfaces, expanded system widgets, and updated credential management tools.

Alternatives for Extending Device Lifespan

Official support ending doesn’t necessarily mean the end of a device’s usefulness. Many popular Xiaomi models benefit from strong custom ROM communities, which often bring newer Android versions long after official updates stop.

For technically inclined users, this can be a viable way to extend the life of their phone.

Xiaomi’s decision to limit HyperOS 3.1 and Android 16 to newer hardware reflects the rapid evolution of mobile software. While disappointing for many users, the move is driven by real technical constraints rather than simple strategy. Devices affected by the cutoff will remain secure and usable, but they won’t experience the next generation of Xiaomi’s software vision.
